Banshee4schools workshops will inspire children and allow hands on experience of a variety of folk music instruments. We can teach singing and dancing and will fit our programme into your schools projects. Our instruments include double bass, bouzouki, mandolin, button accordion, banjo, bodhran, whistle, guitar, mandola and other percussive instruments. We increase the understanding and complete the learning by making links to science, history and geography. We can demonstrate and teach music from different cultures and occasionally different languages (eg. we can do Happy Birthday in 12 languages).

The tracks on the sound clips are examples of what we have done in schools dealing with issues like slavery, Celtic history, immigration, tea, and fairy tales. We can write our own material as per tracks Nightingale (for Hans C. Anderson) and Slavers Rap. We also write material about our own area the Forest of Dean. See www.myspace.com/banshee4schools

A typical school day will be: Assembly performance and introduction, usually 4 workshops KS1 and KS2, leading to an end of day assembly where all pupils demonstrate the things they have learnt to the rest of the school. We will also seek feedback on our performance.

Banshee4schools’ programme is designed to meet both the National Curriculum and National Literacy and Numeracy Strategy whilst complying with Health and Safety legislation. We have full public liability Insurance and all electrical equipment is PAT tested. We have enhanced CRB
